Dr. Joseph M. ODonnell, DDS

Dr. O'Donnell graduated from the University of Illinois with both a bachelor of science degree and a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1982. Dr. O’Donnell has been interested in practice improvement with a specific emphasis on systems ever since he opened his first practice in 1982. Dr. O’Donnell took what he had learned in over a decade of practice when he authored his first book, the Pennwell published: Hometown Hero: An Action Guide for Solo Practitioners in 1995 and has applied it to helping dental practices all over the country to run more efficiently.

In the ensuring years, Dr. O’Donnell has written newspaper, magazine, and dental journal articles, in addition to co-authoring several dental practice solution manuals. He enjoys teaching dental professional and live speaking events, and has taught a number dental practice improvement classes both nationally and locally. In addition he has spoken at the Chicago Midwinter Dental Meeting multiple times.

Amy ODonnell

Amy O’Donnell graduated with a degree in Cognitive Science and Linguistics from Northern Illinois University in 2005, and specializes in creating training materials for dental offices and dental professionals. In addition to co-authoring several articles, materials and books, she has done public speaking for continuing education credit for dental professionals both nationally and locally since 2004. In addition to this she has developed on site dental assistant training programs in multiple states. Over the course of her career, she has assisted multiple practices with developing Standard Operating Procedures. She also maintains accurate records and ensures that all materials and talks follow the standards set forth by various governing agencies. Prior to graduating from college, she worked for O’Donnell Dental Care and is coronal polish certified.

Brett ODonnell, RDA, AHI, CAM-F

Brett O’Donnell, RDA, CAMF, graduated with an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree from Northern Illinois University with a minor in psychology in 2006. His specialty is small business and human work systems design. He also received Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in 2005. After graduating from engineering school he teamed up O’Donnell Dental Care to improve the practice’s efficiency. From there he became a national dental consultant and created analysis techniques to find optimal monthly labor and equipment utilization, including Lean Six Sigma and Value Stream Mapping for on-site process improvement visits, time and motion studies to facilitate on-site process improvement and documentation efforts as well as optimizing practice labor scheduling to meet forecasted demand and monthly production goals.

He has published and presented research on his work in engineering journals, as well as co-authored several articles for Dental Economics and practice management manuals. He is on the Board of Directors for the Illinois State Society of American Medical Technologists. He is one of the few engineers to achieve Certificate in Additive Manufacturing Fundamentals from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers to help implement 3D scanning, modeling, and printing technology for dental practices.

Vicky Alejandro

Victoria Alejandro has been working as a dental assistant for almost 20 years, having been the primary assistant for Dr. O’Donnell. In addition to this, she enjoys training team members has has lectured and trained dental professionals in the Chicagoland area for over 15 years. She has completed certification courses in Coronal Polishing, Sealants, and Coronal Scaling.
